Taking the Christ out of X-Mas.

7 December 2005

In case you haven’t already noticed [for instance if you live on Mars], it’s Christmas time again. And as we’re all painfully aware, that means bustling high streets, plenty of overeating and a drop too much of various holiday spirits. For me, it also means impending year-end deadlines that successfully compound that nagging, stressful feeling caused by Bing Crosby’s Christmas Is a Comin’ looping on a never-ending repeat.
But never fear. The advertising industry is rushing to the rescue in an attempt to capitalize upon this “special” occasion…
And sometimes the tried and true formula works, in an entertaining sort of way.

Christmas cases in point:
Mother’s Chris Christmas Rodriguez
Gerber’s Mistletoe and Meat
An unemployed copywriter
VIA’s A Christmas Gory
Publicis Copenhagen’s Shooting Elves
BMF’s UnAustralian Christmas
Sedgwick Rd’s Commercialize Christmas
